THE RADIO IN QUIMBAYA

In 1995 the Ministry of Communications launched the initiative "All Voices" sought to create Community Radio in Colombia. Same time a raid was conducted nationwide to confiscate the equipment of all stations operating without a license.

were the 8.25 to . M. studies were in the station at that time worked at a local House Cural in the Parque de Bolivar, "The Voice of Quimbaya" was the name by which we identified every half hour, when they broke characters who suddenly said be and authority that came with the mission to seize teams, and they came prepared with them came also the secretary of the ombudsmen, who ordered an ancient typewriter on a desk to conduct impromptu keep minutes of all confiscated, console, decks, turntables, baffles monitor, all marched to a vehicle which was located at the entrance to the incredulous eyes of the raid that we were witnessing, but ... .. laugh all it took to get on the truck? The transmitter! This is safe, why? Because it was nothing more and nothing less than the tower of the church and how they were doing the seizure did not know anything about radio, did not even ask for it.

That day the station off the air "Voice of Quimbaya" operating in the 1,560 kHz. to 300 W. power for 18 years in AM with the complicity of a vast audience and support of the authorities and civic bodies of the municipality.

the same day throughout the country the same scene was repeated in many cities, is that a large percentage of those who had stations "Pirates", "underground" or as they like to call, we are currently operate community radio stations in Colombia.

remembering

In our case in 1973 and started in on an experimental basis as our hobby is electronics and hence the development of radio channels and audio transmission, building a small AM transmitter valves in a turntable with a small antenna, so that its signal could tune in anywhere in the house. The experience gave us the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating an electronic valve transmitter with more power and an external antenna to the exact dimensions to get more coverage, was how they built the transmitter and antenna calculated a ¼ wave frequency where it was to pass, more or less a length of 60 meters copper wire, divided into two strands of 30 meters held on two giant bamboos (bamboo) approximately 15 meters each, you can imagine the difficulties and the number of people needed to take them to the place where the transmitters were installed, fortunately there were many who loved radio and carried in their blood and their willingness to work selflessly to see the station to air.

After taking the guaduas in site, had to proceed to dig holes about five feet deep and then came the good stop them until they fall to the hole, imagine how many people are required for this work, eight to ten, when they were already guaduas in place and well-tempered wires untangled and they proceeded to walk the land so that they remained strongly very firm and could withstand the ravages of nature.

After connecting the antenna to the transmitter came on again, expected 10 or 20 seconds required valves to heat their filaments and strongly urra be heard shouts of joy for all those whose efforts had made possible the signal appeared on the dial, we all tuned in and could hear music on the radio that silently spinning disc on the turntable.

the next day with sore muscles for the effort, up early to start programming, to make their voices heard joyful and full of messages of optimism, social services, dedications, reports the Mayor , police and civic bodies of the municipality who were using their channels to disseminate their messages to the community.

In October 1977 started in Quimbaya continuously from 5 A . M. 10 pm broadcasts Amplitude Modulation (AM) and the first of December of that year was officially inaugurated with a liturgical act, where they were blessed transmission equipment.

was

and work until 1995, which the Communications Ministry ordered the closure and confiscation massive nationwide, teams of all stations were operating without permission and who knew in advance that cities transmitted.

For 18 years we were part of the stock radio for the ministry but not to the communities they knew where they were the studios and transmitters

, where every day they were going to ask
services, a radio with many technical but eager to serve the community, a radio with their selfless work led the way for the development of guidelines today governing community radio in Colombia
.

Quimbaya Stereo, operating since 1997, Resolution No. 2880 of September 1997, is awarded the first stations in Colombia, in 2008, extending its license, Resolution 2109 of September 2008.

For 13 years, with experience in the PM continued to work for the betterment of the community quimbayuna and progress of our beloved city.

Quimbaya currently operates Stereo infrastructure required transmission equipment, metal tower thirty feet high and installed authorized 3 km area urban municipality and its studios in the third floor of the former Hall in Bolivar Park.
